Peace One Day brings waves of enthusiasm to a group of philanthropists, Ambassadors and film lovers in the UAE
SEPTEMBER 21ST IS GLOBAL CEASEFIRE AND NON-VIOLENCE DAY: In September 2001 the Member States of the United Nations adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire - 21st September. As a consequence, in Afghanistan, 1.6 million children were vaccinated against polio last year and the United Nations reported a 70 percent reduction in violent incidents on the day itself.
To help promote September 21st as a day of peace for the first time in the UAE, The Scene Club is hosting a special screening of ‘Peace One Day', a groundbreaking film that sends out a message for worldwide peace. Produced by Jeremy Gilley, founder of the Peace One Day project that began over 10 years ago, the film documents Gilley's inspiring journey to persuade the global community to officially sanction a global ceasefire day; a day of nonviolence, a day of peace worldwide.
Through his captivating journey one individual truly can and did make a difference and on September 7th 2001 UN Member States adopted the first ever day of global ceasefire and non-violence fixed as and on September 21st. Many of the Ambassadors in the UAE will be attending the screening and the club is honored and delighted to announce that H.H Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Minister of Higher Education will also be addressing the 500 guests with his own video message of support and solidarity for the project.
His Highness joins a long list of famous advocates for Peace One Day that include the Dalai Lama, Kofi Annan, HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Jude Law and Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens).
Founder of the Scene Club and spokesperson for Peace Day in the UAE, Nayla Al Khaja said: "Jeremy with his incredible persistence managed to save so many lives and watching the film gave me goose bumps and inspired me to be the spokesperson for a very active group of volunteers in the UAE working towards an incredible initiative in support of Peace One Day. I am honored to showcase this moving film at our club, especially during Ramadan, the month of peace, compassion and cultural understanding."
The screening will be on Thursday 27th August 2009 at Knowledge Village Main Conference Centre.
