Emirates International school in Jumeirah in support of Peace Day

Students from Emirates International School in Dubai learn about International Peace Day 21st September.

On Thursday, September 17, 2009 Primary and Junior school students at Emirates International School in Jumeirah gathered to hear from Reshel Shah [D-seven] and Mathew Schramm [Method of Design] both volunteers raising awareness for International Peace Day.

The two representatives explained the background behind the Peace One Day movement and International Peace Day on September 21st every year. For many of the students it was the first time they had even heard of the day – but all of them were excited and inspired by the idea.

The students took turns signing four peace scrolls with their names and inspirational messages in support of peace. The scrolls were filled and handed over to the UAE Peace Day representatives who have organized an event at the Mall of the Emirates to raise awareness of the existence of the day.

The goal for the Peace One Day group is to have world wide awareness of the special day reach 3 billion people by 2010. The students at EIS Jumeirah wanted to issue a challenge to other schools in the UAE to take on similar educational and awareness projects at their school.
