Our Story

In May 2009, Chiara Maioni (the founding member of
In Support of Peace One Day - peaceday.ae), was forwarded a link to Jeremy Gilley's video for Peace One Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FmEIP46B-E) by a friend.

Incredibly touched by his moving speech, she decided to further investigate his work and his commitment to peace by logging on to his website www.peaceoneday.org.

She discovered that extensive work, inspired by one individual, Jeremy Gilley, had been done globally to create a day, 21st September, as a day of global peace and since the creation of Peace One Day in 21st September 2001, Jeremy has dedicated his life to enabling peace.

Chiara immediately organised a viewing of Jeremy Gilley's film, Peace One Day, at her home and was amazed the impact the film had on her and her friends alone.

Everyone felt extremely inspired by Jeremy's efforts towards peace and instantly decided that they also, as individuals, had the opportunity to make a Commitment to Peace on the 21st of September 2009.

Chiara then contacted Jeremy Gilley's headquarters for Peace One Day in the UK and asked them if the UAE was already actively involved in supporting the 21st of September as a day of global ceasefire and non violence.

They responded saying that the UAE was one of their targeted countries, but that currently they didn't have any individuals or organizations supporting the cause, Chiara immediately offered her support and that was it!

A week later she organized a follow up dinner, inviting a few more people who collectively had a wide range of skills and contacts, in order to see how WE could impact the region with a Peace One Day campaign.

To date, this group has reached over 20 individuals, who are all actively involved and our numbers are continuing to grow as we move forward.
